Haji Munshi Moharram Ali was born in the year 1861 in Chittagong, Bangladesh and was a land owner, famous contractor of evergreen Bangladesh. At first he was a labor leader who believed in hardworking and devotion in which success is hidden. He used non-violent methods and sincerity to get a contract which gives rise to an important source of earning money for poor workers and improves their lives in locality. He left his school early and since then devoted himself as a social activist.To fight against poverty and to improve the local workers condition, he organized people and started working along with them. His first contract was the digging of “Kannisora Khal” at Chittagong. Hereafter he did not look behind. He took one after another big budget contract all over Bangladesh and successfully fulfilled. He had also obtained few contracts of Bangladesh railway and Cox’s Bazar Airport by his excellent track record of successful projects. Moharram Ali married in 1885; they eventually had 4 children and 31 grandchildren. He observed the holy Hajj in 1919.

Moharram Ali’s work changed the lives of millions of people for the better. He had established a foundation named Munshi Moharram Ali foundation in 1935. This organization was meant to give voice to the deprived people of Bangladesh. In addition, he started involving many social activities for sake of community people such as village road construction, school and college development, mosque and madrasa establishment etc. Overtime he gave land to the helpless people to built house. For the local people, he organized a grand feast every year thereby creating the love and respect within the hearts of community people.

 

After a lifetime of successful working, Moharram Ali died of natural causes at the age of 82 in 1943. He had a strong belief that despite the darkness of illiteracy and ignorance of fundamentalism, one can reach his successful destination by hardworking and sincerity. Moharram Ali’s motto was "eta kora jabe, bapar na (meaning "Yes, it can be done.")” and he proved it to be true. To this day, Moharram Ali’s children and grandchildren continue his fight for improving social economic condition of the people.
